Patty Jarvis
Founder, PAONE
THANK YOU PATTY!
In 1992, several arts education administrators from five arts organizations met to discuss their work, support each other, and share resources. The founders of PAONE were a group of strong, passionate, and fearless women including: Caroline Hollway (Canadian Opera Company), Sharon Vanderlinde (The National Ballet of Canada), Roberta Smith (Toronto Symphony Orchestra), Pat Quigley (Stratford Festival), and Patty Jarvis, among others. Twenty-six years later, PAONE has become a strong collective of individuals representing over 25 professional arts organizations. PAONE now operates an annual season of professional development activities as well as advocacy initiatives in support of the growth and development of the arts education sector.
The founding members have remained committed to supporting PAONE through membership, networking, and continually advocating for the work that we do. Founder Patty Jarvis has remained in a leadership position for the organization since the beginning and served as the Chair of the Board since incorporation in 2010. The 2018/2019 season marks a major chapter in PAONE as Patty steps down from the Chair position into a new role of Advisor to the Board.
Under Patty’s leadership, PAONE has seen a tremendous growth. She elevated PAONE’s visibility within the arts sector and with funders, she set the foundation of sustainability for PAONE through its incorporation in 2010, she was integral to publishing The Performing Arts Education Overview, a 2011 report on arts education programming, and her success in receiving grants secured seed funding for PAONE projects and administrative support.
For these, and the countless other achievements that Patty has contributed, the PAONE Board of Directors extends our deepest and most sincere appreciation. We’d like to take the opportunity to recognize our earliest members and founding organizations whose vision and dedication to PAONE has propelled the collective into a new era!
